We are all going to die. We are all facing a certain death. Yet if you are diagnosed with a fatal disease, the imminence of your death makes it all the more real. Are waiting for your mortality to become real before you learn the importance of your life?
We’ve heard all the memes out there telling us to “make time for yourself”, “tell the important people in your life that you love them, ” “be present.” and so on. But are we really present if we don’t understand the full meaning and potential in our lives?
What is your meaning? Going to work and making money? Can’t be. Raising your kids? That can’t be the only goal, either. Sure, that may be at the forefront from birth until adulthood, but then what? What is it that you even inspire your children with? How do you teach them to be their fullest if you don’t have a plan for what your absolute inner purpose is?
Well, God says we each have a purpose.
Romans 8:28 says ” And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
His purpose. What is His purpose? In John 15:16 it says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last–and so whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” That fruit is not merely having children, but to spread the news of His good Word. The Gospel.
Acts 26:16 states: ” Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness to what you have seen and will see of me.”
Furthermore, in Matthew 28:19 says “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit.”
So what are your talents? Some are musically inclined and write songs to inspire those in the Word of God. Others have the gift of formal ministry and giving selflessly as missionaries or pastors. Others have the gift of insight and are able to speak to in a more intimate setting and in a way that they have a fuller understanding of God’s word. This is what we are to do. And why? Because the earth will fade, we all will die, but what is there after this life? God promises us, Heaven. How can we have heaven if we don’t know God?
